Season 1 will blow your mind! If you enjoy time travel, plot twists, sexy characters, and end of the world scenarios, this series is definitely for you.
Based off the 1995 movie staring Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt, SyFy’s 12 Monkeys is about a time traveler from 2043 who’s trying to save the past from an apocalyptic plague. I absolutely loved the movie and I can’t stop thinking about this show. There are a few differences between the series and the movie, which I think are done exceptionally well and give this story a life of its own.
Billions are dead, food is scarce, and its kill or be killed in 2043. To make matters worse, the deadly virus that wiped out most of the world has mutated several times, leaving even the immune at risk for infection. Almost all have lost hope, except for Katarina Jones, a German scientist who’s nearly perfected the art of time travel. And thanks to a transmission received from a dying CDC doctor, Jones thinks she knows exactly how the virus started years ago.
When fate brings James Cole to Katarina’s doorstep, she sends him back in time to find Dr. Cassandra Railly and stop the virus from ever getting out. Cole kidnaps Cassy, and manages to convince her he’s from the future by using some pretty cool paradox techniques. But she doesn’t know anything about the virus or the man supposedly responsible for releasing it.
Cassy’s life is ruined after Cole’s first visit. She loses her job with the CDC, her man, and she almost loses her mind. But Cole’s next visit changes everything.
With a little help from a monkey-loving mental patient, Cole and Cassy team up to reset thirty years of loss and suffering, even if it means risking their lives and turning away from the ones they love. Enemies are revealed, timelines are altered, bullets fly, and brotherly bonds are tested as the clock ticks closer to unraveling the mystery behind the Army of the 12 Monkeys. Who are they? Who is the Witness? What is the Red Forest? And why do so many have to die?
This story will have you scratching your head, biting your lip, and begging for more. I just finished up the 1st season & can’t wait to start the next.
